27th Foundation day celebrations at BIMTECH – The day celebrated the spirit of BIMTECH in a unique way

This quote is a reflection of the 27 years of BIMTECHs’ journey from its humble beginnings in a small room in Pushpvihar, New Delhi, to the current sprawling campus at Greater Noida in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), celebrated the institutes’ 27th foundation day on the 1st and 2nd of October 2014, which also marked the birth of two great leaders of the India, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, with a host of activities and programs befitting the occasion.

On the 1st of October 2014, the institute was graced by the presence of Dr. Pavan Kumar Varma, MP, former Indian Foreign Service officer, adviser to the Chief Minister of Bihar and author who felicitated the professors, chairpersons and administration staff for 10 years of their valuable service in the institute and gave his insight on the topic “Being Indian, Becoming Indian”.  In his talk he emphasized on original though, learning from the past and how India is an idea, not just a physical or political entity. He spoke about how the past was to be an inspiration to the future for the people, citing examples of Indias’ achievements in the field of architecture, knowledge, legislation, music, the country’s influence worldwide both culturally and spiritually and concluded with the effect of globalization and co-option on the people of our country, emphasizing that to be Indian one must aware and rooted in our culture. The eve of Gandhi Jayanthi was marked by prayer and a devotional concert by Shri. Sujit Ojha, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi in which students from various backgrounds paid respect to their deities in their own way.

Gandhi Jayanthi in the institute was marked by the presence of yet another eminent personality. Shri Arif Muhammed Khan, former Union minister of Energy and Civil aviation spoke about the role of youth in nation building, quoting Vivekananda and Mother Teresa, referring to religious philosophy in his talk emphasizing about the qualities that a model citizen of India should possess like moral conviction and awareness that the main source of all human rights is the concept of a person being entitled to dignity and honour and ending with the importance of selfless service. Many long-time associates of BIMTECH were felicitated as well and the day was marked by the release of the Annual activity report of BIMTECH (2013-14) and the launch of BIMTECH digital repository (BDR), an online resource of materials from around the globe for access by the students of the institute.

A community lunch followed the talk with Shri Arif Khan. Student volunteers served lunch for all the workers, administration staff, faculty and other students as is the tradition in BIMTECH. Activities for children for the orphanage was conducted as well in which they painted clay pots and their works were put up for sale. The day culminated with games organized by the sports conduit like slow cycle racing, kite flying and tug of war.

The day celebrated the spirit of BIMTECH in a unique way and involved the entire BIMTECH family which has helped BIMTECH in reaching the heights it has attained.
