New Delhi, Mar 26: After Aadhaar cards were made mandatory for applying for a driving licence and for the renewal of existing ones, Aadhaar-based re-verification was made necessary for all existing subscribers of mobile phone services. The department of telecommunications (DoT) directed all mobile phone service providers to re-verify current customers using their unique Aadhaar identity number. “All licencees shall re-verify all exiting mobile subscribers (prepaid and postpaid) through Aadhaar-based eKYC process,” said a telecom department notification. In this article, we will tell you what all things you will need your Aadhaar card for.

Earlier today, Aadhaar identification was also made necessary for those seeking a license renewal. This move by the government is believed to prevent the issuance of multiple licences under one name which would, in turn, bring down criminal offenses or for fake identity. The Narendra Modi-led government had earlier made it clear that Aadhaar will become an important tool in the future.

Now that Aadhaar card is being linked to most of the things for identity verification, here’s a list of all that for which you will need your Aadhaar card:

INCOME TAX RETURNS

The central government on March 21 proposed that Aadhaar number will be necessary for filing returns from July 1, 2017. The new proposal was made through an amendment to the Finance Bill.

PAN CARD

Along with Income tax returns, Aadhaar card number has also been made mandatory for Permanent Account Number (PAN) applications from July 1, 2017. Now with this new implementation, the PAN cards not linked to Aadhaar will be considered invalid.

MOBILE NUMBERS

If you wish to get a new mobile number, you will need your Aadhaar card to prove your identity. The mobile operators will now re-verify all mobile subscribers (prepaid and postpaid) via Aadhaar based E-KYC process.

DRIVING LICENCE

To curb having more than one driving licences under one name, the government made it mandatory to have a Aadhaar identification card for a new driving licence. As per the reports, Aadhaar identification will also be necessary for those seeking a license renewal.

The Aadhaar identification will be a single document that is believed to establish the identity of the applicant and track details of the driver. As per the reports, the Narendra Modi-led government is planning to make Aadhar the only source of identification for individuals in India.
