AAP condemns assault of JNU students and journalist, demands action

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday came down heavily on Delhi police for manhandling Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students as well as journalists and camerapersons.

“The government which pitched for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign is shielding a habitual molester JNU professor Atul Johri and assaulting and brutally beating innocent students on the road,” said AAP leader Atishi.

She said while addressing media at party office on Saturday.

On March 23, when JNU students marching towards Parliament and demanding arrest of professor Atul Johri, who has been facing allegation of sexual assault leveled by eight students.

When they reached Rajiv Jheel road (near INA) police tried to forcefully stop the JNU students with the help of water cannon and soon the area turned into battle field. Meanwhile, as per the video of incident shows, the female officer assaulting and manhandling journalist and cameraperson of a nation English daily.

AAP leader Alka Lamba said, “Atul Johri has connection with senior BJP leaders that is why, the party has been protecting him.”

She further said, “What Delhi police had done yesterday with the JNU students is highly condemnable.  We have planned to meet with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Delhi LG, Anil Baijal and Delhi police commissioner and raise both the issues.”
