Mumbai, July 9: A high-level committee constituted by the Defence Ministry to probe Adarsh Housing Society Scam, found omission and commission in the conduct of two ex-Army chiefs along with three lieutenant generals and many junior ranking officers. The committee in its report found General Deepak Kapoor and NC Vij were ill advised in accepting the offer of the membership of the society. The committee advised the Ministry to take “appropriate administrative measures” against the accused in the matter.

Deciphering the details of the scam, the report corroborates the facts found in an internal inquiry conducted in 2011. The committee was constituted after the order of the Bombay High Court. Lt-Generals G S Sihota, Tejinder Singh and Shantanu Choudhary and the Maj-Gens A R Kumar, V S Yadav, T K Kaul and R K Hooda were also found guilty in the report.

The report recommended to take appropriate measures as the Army Act prohibits action against retired personnel after three years of retirement. Adarsh Scam gained notoriety under the tenure of former chief minister Ashok Chavan when it was found Army officers conspired with bureaucrats and leaders to get necessary clearance for the construction of the building.
