BIMTECH Celebrates Festival of Onam with cross-cultural events

30th August 2017: The Malayalam calendar of Chingam, witnesses the celebration of the summer harvest with the festival, Onam. Officially the State festival of Kerala, it is celebrated by the Malayali community all around the world with great enthusiasm. Such was the scenario in BIMTECH, yet again displaying the various colours of India.

 

The three-day celebration saw the cross-cultural participation of all the students and faculty of the college. The events included Tug of War, Football matches, Cycle event and Flash mob. On the final day, the excitement could be seen from the early hours of the day, as the students had assembled in the activity plaza to design a beautiful Pookkalam, a floral carpet made by gathering flowers of different varieties. As the day progressed, the students and faculty were seen donning the traditional Mundum neriyathumsari for women and Mundu, for men. The lunch too was arranged with special flavors from the south.

 

As the lights were lit, the students performed Thiruvathira dance form around it. Then, there was a camel ride, on which sat the Mahabali King, surrounded by everyone, dancing to the beats of the Onam songs. The students were enjoying every bit of it, capturing everything as it was an altogether a new experience for most of them.

 

Finally, after a display of fireworks and some more dance, the students dispersed clicking photographs and appreciating the cultural diversity of the country they live in.
