Confederation of NCR residents welfare association (CONRWA) today wrote a detailed letter to Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation in the Government of India, Nitin Gadkari to highlight issues of water conservation in lieu of dropping ground water levels.

The submission highlighted the fact that large number of apartments and residential complexes are being developed in the region and hence the region may see a population explosion in coming 3-5 years. Hence it is extremely necessary to find new sources of supplying drinking water as well as to strictly enforce measures for water conservation.

The letter also presented the ground reality in terms of existing water harvesting schemes which lack proper reinforcement at present. The association has suggested that at first the government properties such as offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, public facilities etc. must adopt the water harvesting measures in totality. There is also much need of spreading awareness for the cause.

Other than this CONRWA has spread light on rain water harvesting, sewage treatment plant and regulations for ground water usage.
CONRWA President PS Jain has demanded that adequate measures must be adopted by the government to ensure that ground water level is replenished and future water needs are appropriately met.
It must be noted that many cities across the world are facing a problem of drinking water shortage and there is increased need of focusing on the problem before its too late.
