New Delhi: Exposing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for using Assam’s National Register of Citizenship (NRC) Congress on Saturday said that between 2005 to 2013 UPA-II government deported 82, 728 illegal migrants from Assam while NDA government only did 1,822 in last four years.

‘BJP want to create disharmony in the country by politicising NRC and divert people’s attention from government failure,’ said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala while addressing press after Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at party headquarter.

Lambasting BJP he further said, ‘NRC is the brainchild of Congress and by 2013 80% of the NRC draft has been completed. In 2009, the UPA-2 government has given Rs 489 crore for NRC while, Atal Bihari Bajpai led government had given only Rs 5 lakh in its regime.’
He further said, Congress is in support of NRC but not in BJP’s way.

CWC meeting
Second meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC) since Rahul Gandhi’s elevation held at party headquarter on Saturday. Highest decision making body of the Congress discussed on Assam NRC, Rafale deal, Bank fraud, declining economy, Agriculture and Bank fraud, said party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Giving clean chit to the PNB defaulter Mehul Choksi over Antigua citizenship and Rafale jet deal were the boiling issue of the meeting and CWC has decided to corner the government on these issues by creating nationwide protest before general election.
