New Delhi: Dalai Lama launched a new “happiness curriculum” for over 800,000 children in Delhi last week. In this programme, students will have a weekly “happiness period” of 45 minutes, with each class beginning with a five minute meditation session.

The ‘Happiness Curriculum’ includes meditation, value education, and mental exercises, and it was designed and prepared by a team of 40 Delhi government teachers, educators and volunteers over a period of six months.

On Thursday, Orientation program on Happiness curriculum was held at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. More than 5000 Government teachers were present on the occasion. Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia also graced the programme.

Addressing the Delhi Government school teachers, Manish Sisodia said, “The aim of the whole scheme is to put the emphasis on children’s mental wellbeing, in the hope it can spark a change that will one day spread across the country and the world as well.”

He further said, “Happy kids show up more able to learn as they tend to sleep better, they have healthier immune systems. Happy kids learn faster, think more creatively, tend to be more resilient in the face of failures and have stronger relationships & make friends easily.”

“Delhi govt is introducing ‘Happiness’ curriculum in schools, so that children are happier, more confident and have greater self esteem, One day ‘happiness curriculum’ Will spread across the country & world,” added Sisodia.
