Delhi speaks on price hike, says govt should reduce tax & make its usage public

New Delhi: The skyrocketing price of petrol & diesel is not only affecting the common people but it has also left the government with teary-eye.

On Wednesday, petrol prices shot up to a four-year high of Rs 74.73 per litre in Delhi, while diesel rates soared to Rs 65.69 according to Indian Oil. The last time prices were this high was in September 2014, when fuel prices were up globally, while the disel price is in all time high in National Capital as well as country.

As the rates are mounting, people eased off their daily use and are shifting towards public transport.

With effect from 6 am on Wednesday, petrol prices were at Rs 74.63 per litre in Delhi, Rs 77.32 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 82.48 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 77.43 per litre in Chennai, according to Indian Oil Corporation.  While, Diesel prices were at Rs 65.93 per litre in Delhi, Rs 68.63 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 70.2 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 69.56 per litre in Chennai, India’s largest fuel retailer mentioned on its website – iocl.com. Domestic petrol and diesel prices have gone up sharply this year as global crude oil prices have rallied to highest since 2014.

Speaking on the issue car owners, bike riders shared their views with the Ten News.

A serviceman, asking not to name hin said, “The hike of petroleum products is adversely affecting our life. And the dynamic pricing has made it worst.”

He further said, “Union government should public that how much tax they have been charging and what is the use of those taxes. It will restore faith among the people and they will not feel cheated.”

Another car owner said, ” The recent hike is because of jump in international market but it is indeed affecting our budget. Government should reduce taxes.”
