ELMS Sports Foundation launched in Delhi, Vision to support and accelerate development of sports in India

NEW DELHI : On Tuesday, ELMS Sports Foundation partnered with Reliance Foundation was launched in the presence of prominent personalities like Abhinav Bindra, P Gopichand, Vita Dani and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. ELMS Sports Foundation’s vision is to support and accelerate the development of sports in India.

ELMS (stands for Excellence in Learning and Management of Sports) vision is to Improve the state of physical literacy and sports excellence In lndia through formalized knowledge creation and dissemination. The foundation will also focus on designing and delivering learning programs for physical education professionals, coaches, high performance sports administrators and other allied professionals across the country. It will also promote sports through public private partnerships.

Vita Dani in her speech said ”We truly believe there-is much more that can be done to ensure physical literacy
becomes an integral part of every Indian ‘s routine. Not only will it ensure a healthier population but also add to the GDP by creating job opportunities.”

Beijing Olympic shooting hero Abhinav Bindra Said “There were many key issues discussed during . the Olympic Task Force (OTF) discussions. I’m strong believer in having world class high performance directors/administrators in India to lead each sports transformation. Our goal is to infuse modern approach into Indian sport that will improve the standards at “Of just the, grassroots level but at the highest level too.”

Gopichand, who has produced a number of world class said, ”We need to look at sports beyond medals and as a great Opportunity for national development. We should also advocate the importance of physical literacy and self-referenced excellence as two pillars in creating sports culture in the country. For the last three Years through policy recommendations and implementation of physical literacy, we have done pioneering work in AP and Telangana and wants to spread physical literacy and take this initiative to the national level.”

On the occasion Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Said, “To Spread the philosophy and rightful implementation, we need to empower our PE teachers and coaches with the rightful knowledge with systematic support.Our mission should be to take sports to the millions of Indians as opposed to a few thousand now.”
