Eminent Scientist Professor Yash Pal passes away in Noida

(25/07/2017) Noida : India’s renowned scientist, education reformer Professor Yash Pal passed away at his home in Noida on Monday. He was 90 years old. Professor Yash Pal was awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1976 followed by Padma Vibhushan in 2013.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to micro-blogging site Twitter to pay his homage to eminent Physicist. He said, “Pained by Professor Yash Pal‘s demise. We have lost a brilliant scientist & academician who made a lasting contribution to Indian education.” He also recalled his past interaction with him several times and shared his memories with him from 2009.

Many other senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah, Manish Sisodia, Mahesh Girri and others used social media forums to pay their respects to the professor for his remarkable work in field of science and education.

Credited for Educational Reforms:

He was very instrumental in reforming higher education in India. When the National Council of Educational Research and Training began work on the National Curriculum Framework, Professor Yash Pal was roped in to chair its steering committee. In 2009, the human resources development ministry set up a committee on higher education which eventually became famous as Yash Pal Committee. Yash Pal chaired this committee and suggested provisions for reforming higher education in the country.

Professor Yash pal had become famous through the TV show “Turning Point” which was telecasted on Doordarshan and was focused on Daily science. He brought the popular science to living rooms of modern Indian masses and gave rise to analytical and scientific approach in a society that had deep rooted superstitions.
