Bureau of Energy efficiency in collaboration with USAID today launched a new energy conservation building code ECBC 2017 in New Delhi.

“The new energy conservation building code has been formulated in consultation with the all the stakeholder in order to ensure the practical implementation of the directives,” said DG BEE.

Speaking on the occasion Piyush Goyal, MoS Power, Coal, NRE & Mines, said that the new code can save upto 40 billion MWh of power.

“If ECBC 2017 is properly implemented, upto 40 billion MWh of power could be saved in the country,” he said. “The previous code that was launched in 2007 was implemented only in ten states, but this time we will make sure that after that ECBC is implemented in all the states properly.”

In order to meet the ever-growing demand for power in India, ECBC can play a vital role to meet the requirement by ensuring efficient utility and minimum power dissipation, he said.

“By taking concrete steps towards the efficient usage of our renewable as well as non-renewable energy sources, India has shown its commitment towards addressing the problems that threaten our environment leading to global climate changes,” Goyal said.

It has been made mandatory for all the states to ensure the implementation of Energy Conservation Building Code 2017, he said.
