From Noida Golf Course to winning national championship
All of 11, Noida girl Anika Verma made the city proud at the Southern India Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Championship 2015, held in Bangalore. A class VI student at DPS, Noida, Anika bagged the first position by scoring 232 shots in 54 holes, making her a national champion in golf (junior category).
This year’s championship saw participation from enthusiastic young golfers from across the country. While she had a shaky start, Anika recovered splendidly to score a birdie (scoring three shots under par). She says, “Winning this championship was more than a dream come true. Honestly, I didn’t really go thinking this is what I would do to clinch the title. I stayed focused and played my best out there. Of course, winning is amazing. I have been playing for a long time, and it’s really close to my heart.”
