In its 110th Year of struggle, the demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland gained a fierce momentum in June 2017 as a retaliatory reaction to the West Bengal government’s imposition of the Bengali language on the Nepali speaking of the region, claimed Gorkhaland Sayunkta Sangharsha Samiti(GSSS) in New Delhi on Saturday during a press conference.

Kiran V. K. President of GSSS alleged that, to dilute the protests in Hilly areas CRPF has been deployed in Darjeeling as a result of which 7 lives have been lost so far.

The entire region’s Right to Thought and expression has been curbed including Internet, local channels and press have been either manipulated or forced to stop from projecting the state of affairs in Darjeeling, he added.

Blaming the West Bengal government, GSSS stated that, to further worsen the plight of the people of Darjeeling Hills, the West Bengal administration is now using siege tactics to stop basic essentials and local miscreants along with the assistance of West Bengal Police force has been deployed at strategic locations in Siliguri to stop vehicles carrying food.
