GREATER NOIDA TENNEWS REPORTER LOKESH GOSWAMI  The ‘World Oral Health Day’ was observed on 20 th March 2017 at Vidya Hall Auditorium of I.T.S Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre, Greater Noida. World Oral Health day is an initiative taken by FDI Society to spread the awareness and importance of a HealthyMouth and its effects on other parts of the body. Every year it is celebrated across the globe by various institutions and dental bodies to mark the occasion. The theme for the year 2017 is Live Mouth Smart.The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Vivek Nangia ( Director & Head of Pulmonology,Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj , New Delhi ). Also present on the occasion were Mr. Sohil Chadha ( Vice – Chairman, ITS Group ), Dr. Puneet Ahuja ( Principal, ITS Dental College, Greater Noida), Dr. Akshay Bhargava ( Director , PG Studies) , All Head of the departments, Faculty and students.Vice – Chairman of I.T.S – The Education Group Mr Sohil Chadha in his address told that health of your mouth mirrors the condition of your body as a whole. He told that taking good care of mouth, teeth and gums is a worthy goal in and of itself. Good oral and dental hygiene can help prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease—and can help you keep your teeth as you get older.Dr Vivek Nangia, , addressed the gathering and mentioned that  he was honoured to be part of the ceremony. He made a brief but very interesting presentation on the importance of Oral health and reflected upon its effect on systemic health. He also told the gathering that World Oral Health Day is an initiative that hopes to contribute to increasing the number of people in the world who never have oral health issues to over 10% of the world’s population. This is important because 90% of the world’s population will suffer from oral diseases in their lifetime and many of them can be avoided with increased governmental, health association and society support and funding for prevention, detection and treatment programmes.  Dr. Puneet Ahuja, Principal apprised the gathering and emphasized upon role of dentist in promoting oral health. He also told that If you don't take care of your teeth and gums, your poor oral hygiene can actually lead to other health problems like Oral and facial pain, problems with the heart and other major organs, Digestion problems. He said that seeing a dentist regularly helps to keep mouth in top shape and allows dentist to watch for developments that may point to other health issues. A dental examination can also detect poor nutrition and hygiene, growth and development problems and improper jaw alignment. Dr. Akshay Bhargava, Director P.G Studies shared his words of wisdom and addressed the gathering. He emphasized upon the importance of good oral health and said that normally the body's natural defenses and good oral health care, such as daily brushing and flossing, can keep the bacteria under control. However, without proper oral hygiene, bacteria can reach levels that might lead to oral and systemic infections.An Eye opening talk on importance of Oral Health was given by Dr. Shivjot Chhina ( Prof. ,Dept. of Periodontics). She told that Brushing and flossing and two important oral health habits should be followed every day. She also said that Apart from brushing, one should also clean the tongue on which a lot of oral bacteria proliferate.The Dramatic society of I.T.S Dental College, Greater Noida “YUVTANTRA” presented a street playa skit depicting importance of oral health and its association with general health on stage which was appreciated by all.As a part of the World Oral health Day celebration, free Ultrasonic Scaling was done for all patients visiting the OPD of I.T.S Dental College on 20.303.2017. It was a day where the celebration echoed that Oral health is a mirror for general health Mr Sohil Chadha applauded the students & faculty for serving the poor patients and the society and organizing such program.
