Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti and Galgotias jointly organize debating competition on “Boon and Bane of Social Media”

Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology, on Wednesday witnessed a terrific debating competition on the topic of “Social Media- Boon or Bane”.

The event- Lt. Shri Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Memorial Inter-University Debate Competition 2018,  was jointly organized by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti and Galgotias University, in the GCET campus.

Uttar Pradesh Government’s Woman and Child welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi, also the daughter of former UP Chief Minister Late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna graced the event and shared her deep insights about the importance of debate in democracy.

The pro-Vice Chancellor of Galgotias University Prof. (Dr.) Renu Luthra welcomed the guest and students and spoke briefly about the rich legacy of former Chief Minister Late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna.

Later addressing the students, the UP Minister said, “It is important to keep one’s mind engaged in constructive activities. It provides us with an opportunity to learn new insights and know more facts. Diverse views help us expand our outlook and make it more inclusive.”

Elaborating further on the topic of the debate, she said, “Every technology has a good or a bad side. It a time when the entire world is on mobile and over 5 crore people in India will be using the internet by end of this year. Anyone who wants to learn can go to social media and use it’s varied tools to learn, connect and engage. Our leaders keep us asking about it.” 

“21st century is the century of IT and technology. Internet is a game changer. With one click you can connect with thousands and millions”, she added.

Minister Joshi also informed that best debators will also be provided with an opportunity to have a meet and greet session with UP Governor and Chief Minister.

Also present during the event were Suneel Galgotia, Chancellor, Galgotias University and Dhruv Galgotia, the young and dynamic Chief Operating Officer of Galgotias University.

In this debating competition, 30 universities and colleges from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are taking part. The best teams from each college will converge in Lucknow for the final rounds. On 22nd morning, there will be a debate among different colleges and next day will be the finale between two best teams.
