Troubles for BJP-PDP government of Jammu and Kashmir doesn’t look to end easily. In what could become a catch22 situation for Bhartiya Janta party, State Human Rights Commission has directed J&K government to give Rs 10 lakh compensation to the civilian who was tied to Jeep by major Gogoi.

The decision comes days after Army Chief had praised Major Gogoi for showing exceptional presence of mind and using this tactic during a tough situation. BJP leadership has also largely defended the move and appreciated it in various forums.

Now that state human rights commission demands a compensation, awarding it to the Civilian would mean also mean accepting it to be Army’s fault. Given its supporter base and PM Narendra Modi’s rhetoric on Army’s pride, the order might come as really difficult for Jammu & Kashmir government to execute.
