I.T.S Engineering College, Greater Noida organized an Inter-Departmental Table-Tennis and Chess Tournament for the students of B. Tech., M. Tech., MBA and MCA. The Grand Finale of the event was inaugurated by the Director, Dr. Vineet Kansal. All the Head of Departments, Dean and Registrar were also present at the time of inauguration.

 

The Director in his inaugural speech emphasized about the importance of sports in the life of a student. Sports are integral part of education. Education without sports is incomplete .Sports and games are means of mental and physical growth. We learn how to maintain mental balance in the midst of hopes and despair. They make us learn how to tackle the difficult situation and develop a sense of friendliness. They develop in us team spirit and they help in developing mental and physical toughness. Either study or work alone makes us exhaust. Sports remove our mental exhaustion. Keeping their value in life, children are taught some sorts of games in the very early stage in school. These days’ sports are a part of academic curricula. They contribute in the formation of character and inculcate in them good values. It is therefore, sports competition is held at school and college levels. The students who perform well in this competition are promoted to play at the national and international level. Thus sports help in career growth also.

In the tournament organized there were 32 participants for the Chess and 30 participants for the Table-Tennis. There was great enthusiasm among the students. There was quarterly and semifinal round in Chess and Table Tennis wherein two students were shortlisted for the finals in the respective event. There was a tough competition among the participants to reach the final round.

 

In Chess (Boys), two students viz. Mr. Jamal Ahmad-CSE-4th year and Mr. Shubham Mittal- ECE-4th year played the finals.

 

In Chess (Girls), two students viz. Ms. Shwati Singh-CSE-4th year and Ms. Soni Kumari- IT 3rd year played the finals.

 

In Table Tennis, two students viz. Mr. Ravi Kharka-ECE-4th year and Mr. Suraj Kumar- ME-4th year played the finals.

 

All the matches were played on the knock-out basis. The co-ordinator of the event was Mr.Agha A Husain – ECE Department.

 

The winners were:

Table-Tennis –  Mr. Suraj Kumar

Chess (Boys) – Mr. Shubham Mittal

Chess (Girls) – Ms.Soni Kumari.
