ICC awards test status to Afghanistan Team, Its officials thank GNIDA

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday awarded Test status to Afghanistan and Ireland cricket teams.

After this the number of Test cricket playing nation has gone from 10 to 12. Afghanistan Cricket team with this move will become a full-time member of the coveted cricket club.

The news becomes more special for India, particularly Greater Noida as Afghanistan national cricket teams home is in the city. Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik stadium of Greater Noida is currently the home ground of Afghanistan cricket team. Previously Afghanistan teams home ground was in Sharjah.

Afghanistan Cricket team has played many series and bilateral matches in this ground. The stadium hosted 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup match between Afghanistan cricket team and Namibia cricket team in April 2016. Even the other team that was granted test status today namely Ireland, also played Afghanistan in a series of ODI’s and T20’s in former’s home ground of Greater Noida.

The Chairman and CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket team thanked the Greater Noida authority, which has built the Vijay Singh Pathik sports facility that houses the cricket stadium.
