Yamuna expressway is now turning into death expressway as in this year only it claimed 71 lives in 470 accidents that are reported. So after such horrible figures finally the state government had decided to conduct a safety audit of the Yamuna Expressway to dig out the main reason behind accidents.

For this audit IIT Delhi has been given the responsibility in which the IIT-Delhi team will identify geometric deficiencies in the Yamuna expressway, including entry –exit lamps , toll booth and other preventive measures along the corridor in respect of safety measures. Audit team will also suggest some corrective measures. This whole audit drive will be conducted with a budget of 31 lakh and have to be done till March 2019.

The IIT Delhi team will also identify whether over speeding is a major cause for accidents or not as it was claimed after an onsite inspection conducted by (CRRI) Central Road Research Institute. In the reports it was stated that during the accident around 80% vehicles were touching the speed of 80 km per hours even during foggy conditions when they met with accident.

This 165 km Expressway that connects Greater Noida to Agra was inaugurated 7 years ago in 2012 during tenure of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. But since then it turned into an accident prone route claiming 770 lives.

Beside this Jaypee Infratech who looks after the Expressway as a regulatory body was also asked to identify the accident prone areas over the Expressway on the basis of past three years data , as well as to take necessary actions to make the those spots safer.
