India is achieving new heights in Indian tourism: Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister

NEW DELHI : India has improved its ranking in tourism sector by 25 places in the last three years. This is the first time in the history of India when the country has cumulatively improved its ranking and with this we are achieving new heights in Indian tourism , told Minister for Tourism and Culture Dr. Mahesh Sharma during the 3rd meeting of National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board in New Delhi on Monday.

In 2013 India ranked 65 in Travel and Tourism Competitive Index and it’s current rank is 40 in the index, added minister.
Recent trends show that India’s  growth in Foreign Tourist Arrivals was way higher than the World’s growth in International Tourist Arrivals. During 2016, Foreign Tourists Arrivals in India registered a growth of 9.7% over 2015.
Talking about the Medical Tourism in India,  he stated, India is blessed with great doctors and with so much potential, could draw the world towards us.
