India to host next edition of the Theatre Olympics- biggest Theatre celebration of the world

In a development that puts India firmly among the top nations in the world theatre map, the country is all set to host the next edition of the prestigious Theatre Olympics.

 

Theatre Olympics is being held in India for the first time, will be organised by National School of Drama, under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, led by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister. The country’s tryst with the biggest celebration of theatre in the world will take place from February 17 till April 8, 2018 and would held across 15 cities across India.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in New Delhi by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture along with Ratan Thiyam, Chairperson of NSD and Waman Kendre, Director, NSD.

 

Talking about the Theatre Olympics, Union Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma said that, it is a great feeling of joy and happiness that the prestigious event of Theatre Olympics is taking place in India, a country which is proud of its innovations and heritage and it will provide a valuable platform to showcase significant productions of groups from India and abroad.

Theatre Olympics is the foremost international theatre festival, presenting the finest productions of well known theatre practitioners from around the world.
