#India vs #Australia 2017 2nd Test Day 5 : India register come-from-behind win to level series

Team India put in one of their best bowling performance of recent times as they defended a total of 188 in the second India v Australia Test at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengalury on Day 4, beating Australia by 75 runs.
Umesh Yadav roared with pace and accuracy early in the innings and R Ashwin came back for his second spell to pick up a six-wicket haul as Australia were bowled out for 112 in the second innings. He ended with the figures of 6 for 41.
With this win, India has levelled the four-match series at 1-1.
The partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkyra Rahane of 118 runs which remains the biggest for any wicket in this series by Indian players — was surely the turning point of the game.
India resumed their second innings on the fourth morning at 213/4 with overnight batsmen Pujara and Rahane looking to continue their good work. Pujara missed his ton by just 8 runs while Rahane scored a solid 52. But the Australian pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood ripped the heart out of India’s middle and lower order soon.
The first one to fall on the day was Rahane. Starc pitched one up which Rahane missed completely and was given LBW by DRS after original decision given by the on-field umpire was not out. Starc sent shivers through the Indian dressing room as he removed the last recognised batsman Karun Nair of the very next delivery for a golden duck.
The biggest blow to India was dealt in the next over as Hazlewood removed the well set Pujara for 92, who edged one to Mitchell Marsh at gully. India were now down to 242/7, leading Australia by a mere 155 runs.
Despite losing five wickets for just 23 runs on day four, Wriddhiman Saha (20) ensured India’s lead was within the range that would have Australia under the mat. Hazlewood was the stand-out performer for Australia in the second innings as he picked up 6 crucial wickets to restrict the Indian total.
India needed quick wickets from the word go and Ishant Sharma gave India the first breakthrough as he got rid off youngster Matt Renshaw, who edged one to the keeper for 5. Steven Smith joined David Warner in the middle and the duo were looking sold in the middle but Ashwin soon got better off Warner. The left-hander went for a sweep of a fuller delivery that had pitched outside off, but was trapped in front.
Shaun Marsh joined Smith in the middle and when it looked the duo have settled in well – Umesh Yadav did a trick with a delivery that jagged back in as Marsh offered no shot. Umpire Nigel Llong did not waste much time to give that out.
Yadav was in thick of things once again as he bowled a straight delivery targetting Smith’s stumps, the ball didn’t bounce much and crashed into Smith’s pads and the Australian captain was given out LBW for 28. But what made it more interesting was Smith signalled for the pavilion probably for an advice on the usage of the DRS and that had Indian captain Virat Kohli fuming. Umpire Llong also spotted that gesture and outrightly denied Smith a review and as Smith walked back.
That might was the turning point and Australian middle order and lower order fell like pack of cards. Ashwin picked up the last two wickets to claim 6 in the second innings, completing his 25th career five-wicket haul to guide India to victory.
