Indian Railways signs first EPC contract with L&T, provides boost to Mission Electrification

Indian Railways had launched Mission Electrification on November 3, 2016 under the leadership of Union Minister Suresh Prabhu along with Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha and on Friday , Ministry exchanged agreement with stake holder L&T as a part of mission and first Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contract of Indian Railways.

Railway Ministry stated that , as a part of Mission Electrification, In recent times 10 different electrification projects covering 2516 route Kilometers at a cost of about 2797 Crores have been finalized in a short duration.

Indian Railways as a part of broader policy of Government of India, to reduce carbon footprint, increase energy security by reducing import bill, has taken up this mega effort to electrify almost all Railway broad gauge tracks in next Five years, said Union Minister Suresh Prabhu.

The electrification of Broad Gauge network of Indian Railway will enhance sectional capacity of already congested network and will also improve average speed which will greatly benefit in achieving the objectives of Mission Raftar, he added.
