Indian wind Turbine Manufacturing Association (IWTMA), an apex body for wind sector, crossed yet another milestone by creating an installation of 5500 MW in 2016-17 as against Government target of 4000 MW. IWTMA acknowledged the support of MNRE in framing and enforcement of various policies and initiatives. Andhra Pradesh created history by installation of 2190 MW, Gujarat 1275 MW and Karnataka 882 MW in the last fiscal year. The industry wishes to thank all the State Governments for their encouragement of wind power.

Addressing the press conference today, Mr. Sarvesh Kumar, Chairman-IWTMA said “While Competitive Bidding is a good vehicle – it must also encompass freedom in Open Access to sell the power to both captive and group captive transaction.”

The manufacturing capacity of 10,000 MW with 75% localization truly champions the ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ campaign. Several opportunities lie in wind solar hybrid, repowering and off-shore among others. The vision is to work towards the Clean Green India and move away from the dependence of fossil fuels. The industry is confident to surpass the Government target of 60 GW by wind by 2022. MNRE announced a paradigm shift to Competitive Bidding as an interstate transaction for 1 GW. 4 bidders are awarded and the installations will come up in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat with a price discovery of Rs.3.46 per unit. IWTMA has appealed to MNRE to announce a bid for 4 to 5 GW in 17-18 to keep the process on.
