The Dankaur market was forcibly shut down as tension flared after the kanwar of a pilgrim was allegedly dismantled by miscreants late on Thursday. The incident led to a clash between two communities. No casualties have been reported. A large police force, drwan from five police stations, has been deployed in the area.

Police said, Suresh Singh, a resident of Rilka village, was carrying his kanwar (bamboo pole with pots on either end) to a temple in Mirzapur from Haridwar along with a group of devotees. A group of people allegedly objected to Singh’s groups’ loud chants. In the scuffle that followed, Singh’s kanwar was reportedly dismantled.
