New Delhi: Mahashivratri celebrated with religious fervour in the Capital city on Friday, with devotees observing fast and offering prayers at different temples.

Temples remained crowded since morning hours . A large number of devotees visited the temples.

Thousands of Hindu and Shiva faithful thronged the temples since midnight. Long queues were seen at the famous Shiva temples. Delhi administration made tight security arrangements at temples to avoid any untoward incident.

Shivaratri, the festival celebrates the convergence of Shiva and Shakti on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi of Hindu calendar month Magha. Women observe fast and offer prayers both to Lord Shiva and Parvati to seek a blissful married life.

In Lajpath Nagar, devotees in large numbers reached Shiva temples since early morning. Huge rush of people are expected in the evening too in the temples where people thronged into famous temples of shiva.
