A 20-year old guy lost his life while passing over a damaged bridge in Jarcha area. While trying to commute over the bridge he lost his balance in the pitch dark night and fell into the canal along with his bike. The incident took place on Thursday night and the victim was identified as Rahul Kumar a resident of Akalpur village. He was in his 20s and used to work as a gym trainer in NTPC Township in Dadri.

Police said the victim was travelling near Piyawali village on Thursday late night. “There was a damaged bridge which connects Sidhipur to Piyawali over the Gang Nahar (canal). People use the right side of the bridge to commute as the left side is damaged due to lack of maintenance”, said an SHO of the Jarcha police station.

Kumar could not see the damaged part of the bridge as it was dark and rode over it. Kumar lost his balance and fell into the canal, the police said. A search was launched by the family members after he failed to reach home by late night.

While searching for him, marks of his tyres were found on the damaged side of the bridge by his family who then informed the police. “A police team immediately rushed to the spot and launched a combing exercise to find Kumar. Divers jumped into the water and found the bike. His body was recovered form little far from the place of incident because of the water current as his body got swept away.

The body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem. The family has not filed a complaint”, said Shailendra Pratap Singh, SHO, Jarcha police station
