MEDIA ISSUES AND SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION
The Journalism and Mass Communication Department of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies(VIPS), commenceda three day national academic seminar on theme ‘Media Issues and Social Transformation’ (MIST 2014).

Crossing out all the geographical boundaries, MIST was a platform where academicians and eminent personalities from the industry came together and deliberated on various issues related to role and impact media creates in the society.

The inauguration was graced by the dais which included media personalities- Prof Ram Mohan Pathak, Prof.Devesh Kishore, Prof ShambhoNath Singh, Prof Ashok Ogra, Prof C P Singh, and college authorities Prof.Dr. V.B. Coutinho, Principal Director of VIPS, Dr S C Vats, Chairman, VIPS and Dr AmbrishSaxena, Director, Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The dais on this academically radiant day ignited the lamp of knowledge and released the souvenirs and compilation of all the papers in the form of five books.

The dignitaries spoke about the human’s curiosity of knowing more leading to the birth of media. They brought into light the role of media since time immemorial and emphasized the need to redefine it academically leading to social transformation. The fact that media should act while maintaining the ethical standards along with the interests of the majority was also highlighted.

The day witnessed eight technical sessions on themes like cinema, women empowerment, media and environmental issues, social media as a catalyst for change, media freedom, its regulation and democracy in which 63 papers were presented by delegates from across the country.Each session was chaired by the eminent professionals from the concerned field.
