NFNS (National Federation of New States) today held a press meet at the constitution club in New Delhi expressing its support and solidarity to the agitation for the state of Gorkhaland.

“The Gorkhas have been demanding their own state for over 110 years. Opposition from the state of West Bengal is anticipated, but the neglectful approach from the central government is very unfornate,” reads the press statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Raja Bundella, president NFNS said, “NFNS believes that right of self-determination the clearest validation of the statehood demand.  After British left, the map of Indian states were drawn disregarding the States Reorganisation Commission recommendation, and keeping political interests in view, and not the interests of the diverse people and cultures that comprise this nation.”

The only solution, he said, is warranted under Articles 2 and 3 of the constitution of India, in the form of an Act of parliament passed by simple majority. “The present government at the centre has sufficient numbers to bring about such legislation,” he impressed, “The demands of statehood cannot be wished away.”
