To expose the false claims of the government about the benefits of Aadhaar, Satark Nagrik Sangathan along with Delhi Rozi Roti Adhikar Abhiyan, MKSS, Right to Food Campaign organised a press conference on Tuesday in New Delhi.

During the recently concluded hearings on privacy in the Supreme Court, the government made tall claims about Aadhaar ensuring food security for millions of people. The Prime Minister in February 2017, in Parliament, stated that the use of Aadhaar and technology had helped weed out 3.95 crore bogus ration cards.
However, experience on the ground and information accessed under the RTI Act shows that such claims are not backed by evidence, stated
social activist Anjali Bhardwaj.
The groups had earlier filed a plea that Aadhaar was leading to exclusion of ration card beneficiaries.
Following that, on Tuesday they stated that, Aadhaar being mandatory for applying for a ration card, a large number of families who did not have the number have been excluded from the scheme. Further they demanded, Aadhar must be declined as mandatory for Ration Cards.
