If NMC is forced upon, All doctors will withdraw services: IMA President, Dr. Ravi Wankhedkar

New Delhi: IMA National President, Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, held a meeting with Union Health Minister, JP Nadda yesterday pertaining to the flaws in the NMC Bill Amendment, medical education and profession. The meeting started at 4:30 PM and went upto 7 PM. Union Health Minister however declined to Discuss the NMC bill 2017 since the bill was before lok sabha.

IMA National President made it known to the Govt. that NMC Bill 2017 in the present format is unacceptable and that IMA would have to take direct action if the desired changes are not made. He added that Crosspathy in any form, anywhere, will be rejected by IMA. He demanded Govt. regulated fee for 85% of the private medical seats. He pointed out that meritorious students from lower socio-economic starta of the society will not be able to pursue medical education if the present 50% quota of the private managements is allowed. The talks were inconclusive but were a step forward

Addressing the Media on Tuesday, Dr. Ravi Said, The three hour long meeting concluded with JP Nadda promising to conclude IMA’s long pending demands with a time frame on all the recommendations of the Inter Ministerial Committee. However the agenda to discuss NMC bill 2017 was declined for time being since the bill was kept before the Lok Sabha.

“IMA headquarters will closely monitor the movement of NMC bill in the parliament. As mandated in Mahapanchayat, if NMC is forced upon the fraternity by Lok Sabha, IMA will declare complete withdrawal of services by all modern Medicine Doctors throughout the country immediately.” Said Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, National President, IMA.

Dr. Ravi Further Said, “The Hon’ble Minister supported by his officials discussed the various other demands of IMA, which was pending with the Ministry for over two and a half years like Amendment in PCPNDT Act, Capping of Compensation in Consumer Protection Act, Enacting Central law against hospital violence and Amendments in Clinical Establishment Act”.
