Ram Mehar Singh to coach the Indian National Men’s Kabaddi Team at the Jakarta Asian Games, 2018

India, August 17, 2018:  Veteran Kabaddi Coach and Arjuna Awardee, Shri Ram Mehar Singh has been entrusted to coach the National Men’s Kabaddi Team due to participate at the Jakarta Asian Games 2018 that opens tomorrow. He will be responsible for advancing the course of the Indian team at the prestigious games in their conquest to win the gold medal.  He will be mentally and physically preparing the players for every match.

The action-packed kabaddi matches at the Jakarta Asian Games will be organized from 19th- 24th August 2018 and will witness a total of 12 kabaddi powerhouse national teams competing for the ultimate glory.

Shri Ram Mehar Singh’s illustrious kabaddi career has brought many laurels to the game in its various formats.  As a player, his impeccable contribution in the 1998 Asian Games saw the team win a gold. Subsequently, in the 2002 Asian Games, he captained the team successfully to add another gold medal to the tally.

His commitment to advancing the spirit of sport in the national and international circuit has been commendable.  He was conferred with the Arjuna Award for his outstanding performance at the 2002 Asian Games in Kabaddi. He was also decorated with the prestigious Bhim Award by the Haryana Government as a recognition for his exemplary dedication towards kabaddi.

Shri Ram Mehar Singh continues to play an active role in developing the game. He started coaching the Air Force and Services team in 2004 mentoring them to three national championship wins. He has also served as the national selector for a period of 5 years.

Shri Ram Mehar Singh is the celebrated coach of Patna Pirates – defending champions and a successful franchisee in Vivo Pro Kabaddi League. He has thrilled kabaddi fans and surprised opponents by adding new dimensions to the game through his strategic and tactical thinking that gets manifested on the mat by his players.

The Indian Kabaddi Team for Jakarta Asian Games looks incredible with star raiders that include Dubki King Pardeep Narwal, Captain Ajay Thakur, Rishank Devadiga, Rohit Kumar, Rahul Chaudhari, Gangadhari Mallesh and Monu Goyat while Mohit Chillar, Raju Lal Chaudhary, and Girish Ernak as three experienced defenders. Deepak Hooda and Sandeep Narwal are the two all-rounders on the team while Maninder Singh and Amit Nagar are the two stand-by players.

India has always dominated kabaddi at the Asian Games since its introduction in 1990 at the Beijing Asian Games. India has won all 7 golds at the Asian games from 1990 to 2014 in kabaddi. Ram Mehar Singh’s boys are all set to further scale up the competitive spirit of kabaddi under his guidance.
