Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Tuesday named Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of Team India. CAC members, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, after conducting interview with the five shortlisted candidates on Monday (July 10) have selected former Team India director as the head coach for a period of two years.

Apart from Shastri, four other candidates namely Lalchand Rajput, Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus and Tom Moody were called in for interview as well. Phil Simmons, the sixth candidate, didn’t appear for interview. Shastri was already a frontrunner for the post and no surprises that he walks away with the job. It is reported that Shastri’s good relation with the current Indian captain Virat Kohli have helped him earn the post.
