Ten questions to the Real Achievers of society

Name: Sudha Bhardwaj

Designation: National President

Organizations name: Rashtriya Brahmin Yuvjan Mahila Sabha

Describe your journey as a social crusader?

It’s been more than twenty five years in the field of social work, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. The ladies wing in Chirag Dilli was formed by me, and in the last many years of its existence, many programs have been organized under its aegis for the welfare and well being of women. The Ramakrishna Mahila Mandal founded by me in 1989, has played a pivotal role in imparting skill development training in fields such as sewing, stitching, embroidery, bead work, sequins work, jute work, knitting etc. As a result of this, most of the unemployed ladies have been able to earn their livelihood on a regular basis for last many years. Along with my vibrant team members, we have organized regular health camps in different areas. Hepatitis B injections have been given to around 6000 needy persons in the year 2013. I have been conducting regular counseling sessions for the benefit of women and children.

Describe some of your accomplishments?

That I am pledged to public service is my biggest accomplishment. Be it the issue of invasion of builder mafia, rampant encroachment, deficient water and the power supply, or the potholed roads, I have always been in the forefront for these causes. As a matter of fact, not only my colony people, but people from neighboring colonies too approach me, as they are all well aware of my zeal for turning things around for the betterment of citizens. Thanks to my upbringing, I never shy from taking initiatives. Since I have a better understanding of the core issues of the common man, I have developed a good knack for resolving them in quick span. Due to my efficient coordination skills, I have played a vital role in bridging the gaps between different government agencies and citizens. Initiating countless Health and Tax Camps/facilitation of Aadhar and Ration cards, to being instrumental in offering a practical solution to the BRT corridor, to undertaking the cause of orphan’s education to expediting the process of widow and senior citizen’s pensions, could be enumerated as some of my humble efforts. I would surely feel uncomfortable terming my small initiatives as ‘accomplishments’.

What are your parameters of success?

Success is in actions, and not rhetoric. My efforts in the field of women empowerment, upliftment of the downtrodden sections of the society, providing employment opportunities to the economically weaker segments, define my parameters of success. I don’t consider a person ‘successful’ unless he or she has done something substantial towards other members of the society, or the habitat. What is your special message for the youngsters regarding

participation in community activities?

Play an important role in community welfare activities. Merely criticizing the system and the government of the day is not fair, as citizens especially need to shoulder responsibilities, and play a crucial role in apprising authorities about the short comings. My simple message is to take ownership of responsibilities, and not be mute spectators or critics.

What are your parameters of happiness?

I derive happiness when there are results. I always tell people that no hard work ever goes in vain as it is a 100% tried and tested fact. I don’t believe in the concept of half hearted efforts as it is bound to be inconclusive. As a policy, I always give my 101% to the tasks and assignments I undertake in life. I feel glad when my advice is sought by people, and adhered to. Spending time with little bundles of joy is my mantra of happiness. I feel fresh and energetic with my granddaughter around, and in fact, spending time with her is what gives me maximum happiness. What role do social crusaders such as your good self play in the

development of the nation?

Social crusaders play a decisive role in nation building. For instance, the three issues that I have been relentlessly pursuing as a social crusader since last many years have been ‘women empowerment’, addressing grievances of old age homes, and providing better amenities and lifestyle to the ‘girl child’. Incidentally these three issues are very crucial from the point of nation building. The issues and priorities may vary from one crusader to another depending upon their inclination or understanding. At the end of the day, what matters is, ‘results’, and the difference that the efforts of one individual is able to make on the life of others in the society. I often play the role of a counselor for creating awareness amongst general public for germane issues like sanitation, hygiene etc.

What are the basic teachings that you give to your children?

Besides imparting them the rudimentary ethos and principles of life, I wish to see my children participate regularly in community projects as well as tree plantation drives for safeguarding the environment against any untoward eventuality. My three children are well settled in their careers, but I would feel pleased if they spare sometime out of their hectic schedule for the critical issues of society. This would not only make them better human beings, but will also ensure their holistic development.

What lessons did you learn from your parents?

To stand firm on moral and ethics… accept challenges in life, and being bold to face any situation.
