NEW DELHI, 15 July, 2017 —Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken held meetings with Congress workers of Tilak Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, Mehrauli and Badarpur districts to make preparations for the protest demonstration by the Delhi Congress to Parliament House against GST on 18 July, Tuesday.
Addressing the Congress workers, Shri Ajay Maken said the faulty implementation of the GST, in its present form, has adversely affected not only the traders, but also the common people. He said the GST in its present form was intended to benefit only the rich and industrialist friends of the Modi government while small and medium industries were closing shops, unable to bear with the adverse impact of GST with its innumerable tax slabs and cesses, and as a result, unemployment was mounting.
Shri Maken said the BJP had promised to give employment to two crore youth every year, but the BJP has not only failed keep up with its promise despite being in power for three years, but was robbing the jobs of poor people due to the wrong policies of the Modi Government and the faulty implementation of GST.
Shri Ajay Maken said that during the last two years, the Delhi Congress had held many dharnas and demonstrations to raise the problems and issues of the common people, like the deaths of innocent people due to dengue and swine flu epidemics and the difficulties caused to the common people due to demonetization. Shri Maken said the Delhi Congress has been opposing the wrong policies and failures of the Modi Government by coming out on the streets to fight for the rights of the common people.
Shri Ajay Maken said inside three years, the Modi Government has lost its lusture as it has failed to fulfil any of the big promises made to the people. Shri Maken said if the Congress party continues to highlight the problems of the common people and fight for their rights, no force can prevent the party from coming back to power.
Shri Maken said whenever the common people or the traders faced problems and difficulties, the Congress party raised such issues inside and outside Parliament House. Shri Maken said whether it was demonetization or the sealing drive in Delhi, the Congress party fought to protect the interest of the common people. Shri Maken said by stopping the sealing drive in Delhi, the Congress party saved the livelihood and dwelling units of lakhs of people. He said during demonetization, the Congress party carried out awareness campaign among the people at the block level, and mounted strong protests when demonetization created extreme difficulties to the poor and the common people.
Shri Maken said lakhs of people and traders had come out to protest against GST at Surat in Shri Narendra Modi’s Gujarat. Similarly, the traders and common people of Delhi also came out to protest against GST. Shri Maken said in such a situation, it was the Congress party’s responsibility to raise the voice of the common people and traders affected by the faulty implementation of GST and wage their fight shoulder to shoulder, and the Congress would hold a demonstration to Parliament House against GST on 18th July, Tuesday.
