Two day long Smart Hackathon culminates at NIET with felicitation of winners

Greater Noida: A two day Smart India Hackathon event was organized at Nodal center NIET, Greater Noida. The event came to an end on Saturday with declaration of winners and prize distribution ceremony. In this two daylong event student from all over the country worked over to tackle the problems that are encountered in the education and Central Public Works Department . Students also built a system for marking attendance in education sector.

The National event was organized simultaneously at different nodal centers across the country. PM Narendra Modi and HRD Minister Prakash Javedkar also addressed the students through video conferencing.

This year, more than 17,000 teams participated for two editions (software and hardware), with 12,047 teams for the software edition alone. Each team consisted of six students and two mentors from industry or academia, and were given 340 problem statements across 24 themes identified by government departments which include environment, space, information technology, health and education.

A team came which came from Punjab named “elite codes” said that the problems were given to them by MHRD. This team had developed programming software of CCTV camera based on retina face ID. A student explained it with example that in many of the government school teachers send another less educated teacher on place of themselves. This camera will help in restricting such kind of malpractices.

Sensory placed in camera will read the retina of the teacher and then the attendance will be made so that teacher will not be able to fake their identities. Another team from Pune named crazy engineers made a chip that can be inbuilt in the ID card and when the ID card is swiped in a particular machine attendance will be automatically registered.

At 8PM prize distribution ceremony was done where ‘cybernight5’ was declared as winner and picked the trophy. They were also given a cash prize of one lakh. There after vote of thanks was done. Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, NIET Chairman OP Aggarwal along with other senior members of NIET institute including Dr. Raman Batra, Dr. Ajay, Dr. P. Pachauri and others were present during the felicitation ceremony.
