UP Weaver Union’s protest at Greater Noida

Greater Noida : (August 7, 2018 ) UP Weaver Union’s protest against National Handloom Development Corporation for not supplying thread

The representatives of UP Weaver Union on Tuesday, protest against National Handloom Development Corporation in Greater Noida for not supplying threads. It was reported that the thread supply has been stopped since 5 months. The protestors raised slogans and expressed their agitation against the department for holding on to the supply of threads since so long. The protestors by handing over the memorandum to the Central Textile Minister urged to fulfill their demands.

Despite of the government’s on going Yarn Supply Scheme, National Handloom Development Corporation has not been able to supply threads to the weavers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand since 1st April. This concerning fact was later confirmed by department’s RM and ED Commercial. According to the weavers, the supply has been on hold basis the instructions from Mr.Sanjay Rastogi, DC, National Handloom Development Corporation. Moreover the union blames the department for not transferring the payments to the yarn mills even after when they have cleared all outstanding bills till 31st March. This hold on supply of thread by the National Handloom Development Corporation has further created a chaos amongst the weavers and is affecting their lives undoubtedly. No supply of threads since 5 months has now raised a situation of unemployment and starvation amongst them.

Mohammed Faruq Ansari, State President of Weavers’ Union along with other workers of the weavers union participated in the protest. The protestors further included Zubair Ansari from Sitapur, Mohammed Anwar from Banda, Haji Abdul Salman Ansari and Mohammed Laik Ansari.

With context to this protest, Mohammed Faruk Ansari, State President of Weavers’ Union, elaborates, “National Handloom Development Corporation has not been able to supply threads to the weavers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand since 5 months, which is adversely affecting their lives. We have urged the government to re start the supply of thread and also to fulfill our demand for supplying 5 month quota thread. Apart from this, we have even asked to pay the claims of pending rent arrears of weavers and have raised the issue of remuneration to the yarn mills.”
