New Delhi: After AAP councillors, leaders of the opposition in three MCD Houses and nominated Councillors on Saturday marched from the party office to the Civic Center protesting the ongoing sealing drive in different markets in New Delhi.

Union minister Vijay Goel has written to lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal asking him to check if the sealing drive in capital can be stopped for the time being. Goel has urged lieutenant-governor Baijal to hold a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister and all the commissioners of municipal bodies in this regard and take necessary steps.

“It is sad that one hand we are witnessing the sealing drive as per the Supreme Court’s monitoring committee decision, but on the other hand there is rampant illegal construction across Delhi, especially in Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk,” Goel Said.

The Union minister also said that it was necessary that those responsible for allowing illegal use of space were equally held responsible and strict action taken against them, be it officials or engineers.
