Guwahati, 16/06/2023: A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh on Friday morning, causing tremors across northeast India and Bengal.
Due to the earthquake, tremors were reported in Assam’s central city, Guwahati, and other parts of the Northeastern region.
According to the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake struck about 10 a.m. (IST) with its epicentre in Bangladesh. So far, there have been no reports of fatalities or property damage due to the earthquake.
The National Centre of Seismology, which monitors seismic activity in India, certified the earthquake’s magnitude as 4.8 on the Richter Scale.
Meanwhile, on June 11, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck Assam’s central region. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the newest quake occurred at 11:35 a.m., with the epicentre near Sonitpur district on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra river. The earthquake’s epicentre is around 150 kilometres northeast of Guwahati, near Tezpur in north-central Assam.
