Miss Earth Contestants actively worked with Navjyoti India Foundation on Tuesday to identify issues faced by a girl child in the country and generate awareness among people of Sehejawas village about this prevalent issue which is cutting the roots of education and development in India.

Contestants were divided into groups and went to few groups of women of the village to discuss about the issues like Female Feticide, Dowry, Gender Discrimination, and accessibility of education, Mobility of girls within and outside the village. A comparative analysis on the understanding of the community on the issue of girl child 10 years back and now was done.

The contestants asked the women about the reason for not allowing girls to have their education. It was found out that people are ready to send their girls to school which are in the village. But since there are no colleges for higher education they don’t allow their girls to go out for studies. Also, there is male domination in the community and men don’t want their girls to go out as there are so many safety issues in the city.

Contestants motivated all the women to support their girls and aware them about education and women empowerment. After the discussion girls gave the feedback about the mindset of people of village to the team of Navjyoti. “We want to represent our country in the international platform of Miss Earth so we need to know the issues of the country at the grassroot level. Navjyoti is giving us such a great opportunity to know about the issues prevailing in the society” said one of the contestants.

On this occasion Ms Chandani Bedi Director of Navjyoti India Foundation said “We have to save the girl child, the women themselves have to come forward and fight their way out to growth and promote self-reliance and not just surrender to the fate.
