Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi speaks eloquently about Child Trafficking issues at Times Lit Fest 2017

NEW DELHI : Kailash Satyarthi was the guest of Honour at Times Literature Festival 2017, which begin today at India Habitat Centre New Delhi.

Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi spoke largely about social evil issues specifically child trafficking and child abuse. He also shared his personal love story with the audience and elaborated upon his initials struggles.

Encompassing his vision for India he said that I have a vision that India should lead in Globalisation of compassion.

Speaking about need of making a centralised body for to deal with crime again children he said that a National Children Tribunal on the line of National Green Tirbunal is the need of time.

Speaking on Government expenditure on Children welfare, Kailash presented data and said, “Less than 4% of our GDP goes for education and health of our young population. We have around 40% of our population and if we want to utilise maximum potential of the same then we should have an equal proportion of expenditure as well. Government should ensure that atleast 10% of GDP is spent on children welfare issues including nutritional food, education and welfare”.

Talking about social stigma attached with child sexual abuse cases he said, “The victims and survivors live in fear. Even the individuals who are bystanders keep quiet because of status quo and social tabboo. As individuals we should speak with our children, we should be friendly with our kids and we should educate them about good, bad touch, their rights and duties”.

Kailash Satyarthi also spoke about his demand for ensuring Education for all. He said, “We demand compulsory and free education should be given to every children till the age of 18 under the new latest sustainable goals”.

The session of Kailash Satyarthi was Interrupted by an elderly female audience member who objected to Nobel Laureate’s critical fact shaming and demanded that instead he talks about what he has done to deal with these issues. At a later point Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi also met the lady and quipped her objections with a witty rebbutal.
