New Delhi, 28 October 2022: Following his appeal to the Union government to print new notes with the images of the Hindu deities for the country’s ‘economic prosperity, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to include the photographs of deities Ganesh and Laxmi on Indian currency.

“I have written a letter to the prime minister, on behalf of 130 crore Indians that the images of Laxmi-Ganesh ji should also be put on the Indian currency along with Mahatma Gandhi,” Kejriwal said after sharing the letter on social media.

In the letter, it was stated that all Indian residents are expected to work hard, but for the efforts to be successful, we also need the gods’ blessings. The appropriate approach is perseverance and divine favour, adding that when Kejriwal had presented the concept, the public responded “massively in support.”

Earlier, at a press conference, Kejriwal had stated, “Our economy is not growing. In order to grow our nation, we must use several different approaches. We must, among other things, construct schools, and hospitals, and improve the infrastructure of our power and roads. However, we won’t see the results of our labours until God’s favour is upon us.

In response to a query regarding the likelihood of opposition from minority communities, Kejriwal noted that Indonesia, a country with a majority of Muslims, issues currency with a picture of Lord Ganesh on it.

However, Kejriwal’s plan has drawn condemnation from the opposition, with the BJP accusing the AAP of trying to “cover its anti-Hindu face.” The change occurs before the key assembly elections in Gujarat, where AAP has been attempting to project its administrative experience and religiosity.
