New Delhi (India), February 21, 2023: Passengers on Air India Flight AI-805 from Delhi to Mumbai were left outraged on Tuesday night after the flight was delayed by nearly five hours.
The scheduled take-off time for the plane was changed four times, initially set for 8 pm, it was pushed back to 10:40 pm, then 11:35 pm, and then 12:30 am. The flight finally left at around 1:40 a.m. from Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
One passenger said that the authorities concerned were “fooling” them by making up stories about the crew being late. At the same time, another airline employee claimed that the delay was caused by the pilot falling sick right before the scheduled departure.
The delay cost many passengers their connecting flight to Qatar, and another traveler called it a “horrible experience.” The passenger accused Air India employees of not providing any clarity and even refusing to offer water until around 12 a.m.
Air India’s spokesperson rejected the accusation and said that all passengers were well taken care of and given meals. The company representative further blamed the aircraft’s delay on technical difficulties.
On Wednesday, another Air India flight from Newark to Delhi had to make an emergency landing in Sweden due to an oil leak in one of the engines. The flight, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, landed safely in Stockholm.
