Greater Noida, 16th February: Climate change, which has been termed as one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century, is expected to wreck havoc not only on human lives but may also substantially impact the balance sheet of organizations.

In view of this, BIMTECH on Tuesday launched a course on ‘Sustainability and Climate Risk’ in association with Axa Climate. The aim of the course is to develop the learner’s professional knowledge, understanding and skills relating to climate change, climate risk and sustainable finance, with a view to supporting customers, clients, colleagues, and communities with the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon world.

Speaking to Ten News about this course, Dr. H. Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH said, In India, many people have no idea about the impact of climate related issues and global warming on the economy. Global warming is creating upheaval around the world, in India too, cities where floods were a rare occurrence, have seen heavy floods, casualties, losses to businesses, livelihood, and agriculture. Around the world, there is an understanding among the big countries, leading scientists that global warming issues can be resolved if businesses, government, and society join hands. Business is getting talent from business schools, if the graduates of business schools do not know about the impact of global warming on businesses, economies they will not be successful in managing businesses. Companies will expect them to know the linkages between global warming issues and future of business, that is why BIMTECH has taken this initiative, we shall be launching this course in July 2022 in all PGDM programs where around 420 students will study this course. The content for this course will be prepared by BBC.

When asked about his thoughts on global progress made on mitigating climate change, Dr. Chaturvedi said, “Globally there is a much difference between preaching and practicing among the rich nations which are most responsible for global warming. The rich nations have committed that they will help poor countries in mitigating climate related risk and they have committed some funds also that they have not given. This is a complex issue but definitely the planet has no future beyond 2050 if the temperature is not reduced by 1.5 degree Celsius. There is no way out, all countries will have to join hands together and they will have to fulfill their commitments.

Speaking about the opportunities that climate change presents, Pankaj Tomar from Axe Climate said, “Global warming is a vital topic for each one of us the way digital transformation was almost 10 years back and now we all know how it has evolved and how many jobs it has created. We believe climate change is one such topic which is going to be extremely vital and almost all organizations and corporates will be driven by climate and sustainability.”
