Amit Shah Oversees destruction of 1.44 lakh kg drugs worth ₹2,378 crore, Pushes for ‘maximum awareness’ among youth

New Delhi, 17th July 2023: Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, presided over the Regional Conference on ‘Drugs Trafficking and National Security’ in New Delhi on Monday. Amit Shah expressed gratitude to the states and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for the destruction of 1,44,000 kg of drugs worth Rs 2,378 crore.

The Home Minister asked the chief ministers and governors of all states to follow suit.

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister addressed the Regional Conference on ‘Drugs Trafficking and National Security’, he said, “I request all Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to implement this step in all states…the biggest step to win this fight is to create maximum awareness. Till we don’t spread awareness among youths against drugs, we won’t be able to win this fight…”

Amit Shah saw the narcotics annihilation in many states via video conference from New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NDA government for its anti-drug campaign. According to Amit Shah, 1,250 instances were reported between 2006 and 2013, with 1.52 lakh kilos of drugs seized.

Since the NDA administration took power in 2014 until 2023, 3,700 cases have been reported, and 3.94 lakh kg of drugs have been seized. According to Amit Shah, the number of cases registered and substances recovered has increased by 160%.

Multiple law enforcement agencies from various states destroyed drugs. Madhya Pradesh lost 1,03,884 kilogrammes (1.03 lakh kg), Assam lost 1,486 kilogrammes, Chandigarh lost 229 kilogrammes, Goa lost 25 kilogrammes, Gujarat lost 4,277 kilogrammes, Haryana lost 2,458 kilogrammes, Jammu and Kashmir lost 4,069 kilogrammes, Maharashtra lost 159 kilogrammes, Tripura lost 1,803 kilogrammes, and Uttar Pradesh lost 4,049 kilogrammes.

With the latest round of drug destruction on Monday, the total amount of drugs destroyed in the last year has reached 10 lakh kg, which is worth Rs 12,000 crore, according to officials.
