ARC’s Sustainability Global Awards ignite minds of Students, Teachers and Principals

New Delhi (22/11/2022): ARC hosted the Global Sustainability Awards at India International Centre. The panel discussion during the event witnessed key dignitaries coming together to express valuable opinions and knowledge pertaining to sustainability.
Mohammad Asif, Executive Director of Plan India, expounded upon the situation of child poverty across India. He said, “When I talk about child poverty, it’s not just about lack of income. It’s about lack of education, lack of access to healthy practices, being unaware of their rights and so forth.”
He also said that people living in the society shall work in cohesion with the government to eradicate the aforementioned challenges. He said, “A large section of girls do not carry out safe menstrual hygiene practices. It continues to be a taboo in our society.
“Having conversation pertaining to good menstrual hygiene practices, ensuring safe menstrual hygiene practices could help them lead healthier lives.”
He noted that the Prime Minister has set goals to eliminate Tuberculosis in India by 2025 and steps are being taken to ensure the same.
Dr. Manjula Pooja Shroff, MD Kalorex on Green Mentors, spoke about the steps taken by the organization to inculcate awareness surrounding sustainability in students.
She said, “Unless the teacher is a pivot in the classroom and is a green ambassador himself/herself, it is going to be extremely challenging for the school system to spread the word.”
Addressing the principals present at the event, she said, “It may appear like the board members have authority, all decisions on ground are taken by the principal.”
Nalini Asthana, famed Kathak Dancer, was also present at the panel discussion. She expressed that it is imperative to inculcate responsible behavior within children. She also shared her experiences of meeting various families across the globe. Furthermore, Nalini Asthana also heaped praises on Indian culture as she said, “I make certain to familiarize people across the globe with of Indian culture.” Speaking on performing arts, she stated, “The beauty of performing arts lies in the fact that it tends to encompass genders.”
Sandip Marwaha, Media Guru at Igniting Minds, said, “There are two things which are more beautiful than what you can observe with your naked eyes – your thinking and your feelings.”
He also expounded upon the role of media saying that, “Media plays a very important role in our lives – be it print, radio, or cinema. Cinema tends to have an extremely large and solid impact on the minds of individuals which is why filmmakers should be extremely conscious while making films..at the end of the story, the film should leave behind a social message for everyone to learn from.”
Geetika Bahuguna, Chief Operating Officer at Millenium Education Group, said, “We are driving the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals as a mission in our schools. It is a part of our curriculum and all our schools are putting in a lot of efforts to ensure that both children and teachers get sensitized.
Ms. Renuka Dhar, Head of Implementation at Millenium Education Group, spoke about taking it to the next level.
Ms. Geetika Bahuguna further continued, “The baton has to go down to the children..we are going to involve the children in various projects that they are going to conceptualize, identify what are the problems, come up with the solutions, and implement them.”
Awards were presented by the Chief Guest Nalini – Kamlini , Sandeep Marwah, Rishi Kumar , Anahul Alag and other dignitaries .
The event was held in partnership with Council of Royal Roots, CEE (Centre for Environment Education), CITTA India, and earthday.
