Ban on petrol & diesel taxis will expose AAP govt’s lack of preparedness

Delhi govt. is responsible for jeopardizing livelihood of 4 Lakh peopleand causing extreme discomfort to people of Delhi:

Sh. Vijender Gupta

New Delhi 01 May 2016Opposition Leader in Delhi Assembly Sh. Vijender Gupta said that due to impervious and indifferent attitude, Delhi government has jeopardized livelihood and sustenance of four lakh people in the capital. Supreme Court ruled a ban on private taxis fitted with petrol and diesel engines. It will increase the difficulty for people who are commuting to Noida, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, Gaziabad, Sonipat etc. to their workplaces. Delhi Government is responsible and accountable for risking the livelihood and employment of lakhs of people in the capital. The apex court extended the deadline for the taxis to 30th April, 2016 for fixing their vehicles into less- polluting CNG mode. Now the ban is imposed in the national capital from tomorrow (2nd May, 2016) and petrol and diesel taxis cannot ply in Delhi (NCR) anymore.

Sh. Gupta commented that it clearly demonstrates indifferent and non-serious approach of AAP government towards well- being and welfare of the people as they did not take adequate steps to fix alternatives in public transportation system of Delhi. The Hon’ble Supreme Court hinted about this decision 2 months back and extended the deadline twice. The government ignored the gravity of the situation. To avoid their face, AAP govt. requested the Court to give a further extension. The three- judge bench court headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur along with justices A.K. Sikri and R Banumathi rejected the plea and condemned that it is quite surprising how government is taking a defensive position and not taking any adequate and alternative measures towards improving public transportation system of Delhi. Toxic air pollution released from diesel and petrol cars is a threat for the health of Delhiites.

It is important to note that employees working in call centers, industries, factories, schools, hospitals and other private organizations used to commute to their workplaces via taxis and cabs arranged by their respective companies and organizations. Companies and organizations hired taxis and cabs to provide pick and drop facility to their employees for hassle free and safe drive to their workplace and home. This facility proved to be a blessings for women in Delhi while ensuring their safety and security. After the decision by Supreme Court, diesel and petrol cabs will go off roads of Delhi from tomorrow and women who are commuting everyday to their workplaces in Delhi (NCR) region will be affected severely. Transportation experts said that that AAP government could have easily look for an alternative for improving the Public transportation in Delhi before the decision of the apex court is implemented. However, it seems that the government did not take serious action intentionally, so that they can blame the Central government for the hardships of people in Delhi.
