His Defence background helped him to steer ahead in every field.
Speaking in a function organized to pay tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Brig K.G.Behl, President Sanyukt Nagrik Sangthan and All India consumers council stated that Baba Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar showed an acumen of a military type actions in most of his activities. He said that very many people may not know or recollect that Dr. Ambedkar was son of a Subedar in Army and as such drew inspiration from his father to work as a disciplined person in every field of life. Being the last and 14th child of the parents. Dr. Ambedkar was born into a poor low Mahar (dalit) caste, who were treated as untouchables and subjected to socio-economic discrimination prevailing at that time. But he faced that boldly being the son of a Subedar. In those days Subedar used to wield a lot of respect and power not only in his sphere of activity but also was treated with respect in his village. As you all know in Army there is no discrimination of any type and especially in religion where festivals of all religions are celebrated together with equal love and festivities. But when as a child he found discrimination in school and outside he not only fought against that but persuaded his colleagues to fight against that injustice but peacefully and in a disciplined way. His tolerance was exemplary and he carried out works the way as if he was happy in carrying out the unpleasant things. All the same he kept on telling people that the discrimination against some of the communities were wrong and needed drastic changes, since all humans are alike and need to be treated in the same way. He was basically intelligent and accepted happily all the facilities / offers of help/assistance from whatever source it came from for higher studies. In his early career he was an economist, professor, and lawyer.
Ambedkar was a prolific student, earning a law degree and various doctorates from Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and gained a reputation as a scholar for his research in law, economics and political science. His later life was marked by his political activities; he became involved in campaigning and negotiations for India’s independence, publishing journals advocating political rights and social freedom for dalits(Backward classes), and contributing significantly to the establishment of a Dermocratic state of India.
Since he distinguished himself in the studies of Law, rose to be one of the main architects of the constitution of India which is unique and lays down how all human values are to be respected and practiced without any discrimination of caste, colour, creed or religion. He was a jurist, social worker, politician, writer, educationist, emancipator of the untouchables and crusader for social justice. He drafted the Indian constitution and was a minister in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet.
After publishing a series of books and articles arguing that Buddhism was the only way for the untouchables to gain equality, Ambedkar publicly converted himself along with followers on 14 October 1956, at Nagpur. He took the three refuges and Five Precepts from a Buddhist monk, Bhadant U Chandramani, in the traditional manner, and in his turn administered them to the 600,000 of his followers who were present. The conversion ceremony was attended by Medharathi, his main disciple Bhoj Dev Mudit, and Mahastvir Bodhanand’s Sri Lankan successor, Bhante Pragyanand. Ambedkar asked Dalits not to get entangled in the existing branches of Buddhism, and called his version Navayana or ‘Neo-Buddhism’. Ambedkar died within less than two months later, just after finishing his definitive work on Buddhism.
In 1990, Govt. of India, conferred on him the Title of Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, posthumously. Ambedkar’s legacy includes numerous memorials and depictions in popular culture.
So you can imagine how much his military back ground helped him in forging ahead and take in his stride whatever came in his way. His Nationalistic approach, secularism, state forward action and clear thinking and going ahead with whatever assistance he got using his skill, hard work and dedication won him a special place in every one’s heart. No wonder, all liked him. He has set an example for youngsters to follow. On this day we remember him and pay our regards and tributes
Floral tributes were paid by all present there. Some of them described him as a masiha of down trodden and the architect of the Constitution of India. Students present there were told to emulate his teachings and work hard as he did.
