BJP Government responsible for worsening law and order situation, as it protects the perpetrators of crises against women : Haroon Yusuf

NEW DELHI, May 15, 2024—Chairman of the Media and Strategic Campaign Committee for the Lok Sabha election and former Delhi Minister Shri Haroon Yusuf said that law and order situation in Delhi has become so critical that murders, attempt to murder, snatchings, robberies, abductions, assaults on women and children and other serious crimes have become everyday occurrence due to the incompetence and inaction of the BJP Government at the Centre. He said that Delhi has now earned the notorious sobriquet of the “Crime Capital” of the country, and the Congress manifesto has promised to implement effective crime prevention. He said that the BJP was protecting criminals who commit crimes against women, for political gains, as  women’s safety and security have become a serious issue across the country.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today along with Shri Anuj Attrey, Shri Haroon Yusuf said that crime rates have witnessed a massive spike in the past ten years across the country, and Delhi tops in the crime chart, despite it being the national capital, and under the very nose of the Union Home Ministry. He said that  no effort has been made to strengthen the short-staffed Delhi Police force, despite Delhi expanding and the population increasing manifold. He said that Congress was concerned about Delhi’s law and order situation, and the party will address this issue on a priority basis when the India Alliance comes to power at the Centre, as the promises in the Congress manifesto has assured that “Haath Badlega Halath”, and protect women and children from criminals.

Shri Haroon Yusuf said that women’s safety has become a worrying aspect in Delhi, as crimes against women and children have gone up sharply in the recent years despite the BJP’s slogan of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” as the short-staffed Delhi Police, most of which has been detailed for the security duty of VIPs, has failed to control crimes in the Capital.

Shri Haroon Yusuf said that it was a matter of grave concern that the BJP has been protecting those who committed serious crimes against women, as the father of the criminal who was responsible for the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, was Union Minister of State for Home, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh responsible for the women wrestlers’ agitation, Prajwal Revanna who sexually exploited over 2000 women in Karnataka for whom the Prime Minister had done election campaigning, and many other such incidents.

Shri Haroon Yusuf appealed to the Union Home Minister and the Lt. Governor to fill the 13,500 vacant posts in Delhi Police so that the police force could implement effective policing in the Capital to check the rising crimes. He said that crimes have become so severe in Delhi that four murders in three days have become routine happening, and in the past three years, crimes against women have seen a 45 per cent rise, and a 41 per cent rise in crimes against children and 45 per rise in crimes against the aged, and cyber crimes have registered a 313% jump. He said that the Congress manifesto has put emphasis on controlling crimes, particularly crimes against women and children, which will be achieved when the India Alliance comes to power at the Centre.
